Salient Achievements
I) Mulberry Germplasm Information System (MGIS) : CSGRC, Hosur is maintains 1269 (indigenous – 999 & exotic – 270) mulberry accessions in the Field Gene Bank. During the maintenance of germplasm, characterization and evaluation are also carried out for proper documentation. To utilize and easy access to huge amount data, CSGRC has developed a database namely Mulberry Germplasm Information System (MGIS) incorporating various facilities like a) data storage on passport, morphological, anatomical, reproductive, growth and yield and propagation with replications as per the desired data sheet format, b) data listing, c) basic statistics d) querying the database. This system is being under use at CSGRC, Hosur for database maintenance and accession filtering for further research use.
II) Silkworm Germplasm Information System (SGIS) : Central Sericultural Germplasm Resources Centre, Hosur is maintains 466 (bivoltine – 365, mutant – 20 & multivoltine – 81) silkworm accessions in the Silkworm Gene Bank of CSGRC, Hosur by conducting two bivoltine rearing, 3 mutant rearing and 4 multivoltine rearing. During the maintenance of germplasm, characterization and evaluation are also carried out for proper documentation and future use. To utilize and easy access to large data, CSGRC has developed a database package namely Silkworm Germplasm Information System (SGIS) incorporating various facilities for data storage on passport, morphological, evaluation with replicated data, along with query based retrieval facilities. This system is being under use at CSGRC, Hosur for data storage and accession filtering for further research use.
III) Seri-Stat Software Program : A software tool is developed for analysis of mulberry and silkworm germplasm data with the following data anlysis. A) General Statistics, B) one-way Frequency table, c) Two way frequency table, d) Qualitative frequency table, e) Mano index for selection of accessions, f) High and low performing accessions on each parameter, f) Best performing accessions based on multiple parameters with various criteria g) Ranking of germplasm accessions by Z Score and Joint Score methods.
IV) Mulberry and Silkworm Supply database : In order to maintain information on mulberry and silkworm germplasm supply to the indentors, a database is developed and installed in Mulberry and Silkworm Division of CSGRC, Hosur and it is being regularly used by the Scientists of CSGRC, Hosur as and when supply is being made. It gives the report like a) Date wise, Indentors wise, purpose wise supply of mulberry and silkworm supply, b) Accession supply frequency etc.
V) Egg Preservation Schedule Program : A software programme has been developed whereby if the oviposition date and the period of consignment required is fed the schedule of consignment can be obtained instantly. Similarly one can also get the consignment schedule if the date of oviposition is fed and the required date of release is specified, the programme will adjust among the days in the low temperature regime on its own depending on the desired release date.
VI) Website : This centre has developed and hosted the website for this centre as www.csgrc.res.in. The site contains the information on Centres activities, facilitities, on going projects, outcome of the projects, achievements, administrative information to the public and viewing mulberry and silkworm germplasm database information etc. It is useful for the Sericultural Scientists, students and mulberry and silkworm germplasm indentors.
